World Hepatitis Day 2018
Saturday 28 July, 2018 marks World Hepatitis Day, a global health awareness day on viral hepatitis. This year’s World Hepatitis Alliance campaign enjoins people to find the “missing millions”. It’s estimated that around 300 million people are living with viral hepatitis (hepatitis B or C) worldwide but most remain undiagnosed. Unable to link these individuals to care millions will continue to suffer.
Each year, CanHepC trainees, members and collaborators prepare a number of events to inform and increase awareness to hepatitis C, encourage people to get tested and educate on the various treatments available.
This year, CanHepC trainees will again hold outreach and awareness raising activities in several locations in Montreal and elsewhere in the country on 27-28 July where they will distribute flyers on the importance of getting tested and contact information for people who want to follow-up on testing and treatment.
They have also prepared an opinion letter based on the World Hepatitis Day campaign theme "Find the Missing Millions" in French and English which they will send to local political representatives. All CanHepC members, including primary/co-investigators and knowledge users are encouraged to contact their political representative with this letter. Your support in extending the reach of this campaign would be greatly appreciated. Download the letters here: >> French version >> English version
On the occasion, CATIE has also launched short video interviews done at the 7th Canadian Symposium on HCV in Toronto back in February with some of our members on a range of subjects related to hepatitis C:
- Micro-elimination of HCV – Jeffrey Lazarus
- Australia’s story on universal access to hepatitis C treatment – Jason Grebely
- British Columbia Hepatitis C Testers Cohort – Mel Krajden
- Hepatitis C among people who use drugs – Julie Bruneau
- Research to inform policy change – Marc Bilodeau
