Roadmap Project

Hepatitis C Elimination Roadmaps

In 2020-21, CanHepC started the Hepatitis C Elimination Roadmap Project to sustain efforts towards hepatitis C elimination since the release of the national Blueprint to inform hepatitis C elimination efforts in Canada. Recognising that healthcare in Canada is under provincial and territorial jurisdiction, this project aims to develop regional roadmaps to hepatitis C elimination in addition to one national Indigenous-focused roadmap to hepatitis C elimination among Indigenous peoples (i.e. First Nations, Métis and Inuit).

Roadmap objectives

The overall goal of the roadmaps is to guide the implementation of hepatitis C elimination plans at the provincial/regional level.

The specific objectives of the roadmaps are to:

  • Contextualize and adapt the Blueprint recommendations to regions (how & who);

  • Reach a multi-stakeholder consensus on the recommendations and actions to prioritize to reach elimination;

  • Address the specific barriers, challenges and enablers to hepatitis C elimination that pertain to regions and communities;

  • Assess each region’s progress towards elimination.

Regions

For this projects, provinces and territories have been regrouped as follows: British Columbia, the Prairies (Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan), OntarioQuébec, the Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island), Newfoundland and Labrador, and a separate region representing the North (Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon). In addition to these regions, a distinct national Indigenous peoples roadmap process will also take place, recognising specific strengths held and challenges faced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

These seven CanHepC roadmaps are developed by key provincial and territorial (and national Indigenous) stakeholders in leadership roles in the hepatitis C response, and are currently at different stages of development. The teams leading each roadmap, include stakeholders who contributed in the national Blueprint development effort, in addition to key provincial-level programming leaders and key decision makers.
